Between this grinder and the chisel,it was completely effortless and surprisingly fast getting the old mortar out.A couple things I like about this grinder: there are three positions for the handle top, and both sides. It uses a sliding switch, not a trigger or paddle,so you just turn it on and it stays on.This Porter Cable grinder performed perfectly without fail all day long. Also it is nice not to have to worry about wearing out motor brushes,as some other brands in this price range have.
More Details About PC60TAG Grinder
Porter-Cable’s PC60TAG cut-off tool angle grinder has a serious 11,000 rpms to take care of a wide array of high-speed material removal tasks, while the rugged 6-amp motor plows through a variety of jobs without any problems. The grinder’s 3-position side handle in combination with a rotating housing feature lets the gear housing circumvolve for optimal positioning for the task at hand and helps to ensure that a user will retain control in whatever position they’re using the tool.
A durable cast metal gear case on Porter-Cable’s PC60TAG cut-off tool/angle grinder adds both to the life of the tool and to its resilience around the workplace. The tool-free rapid release guard makes it possible to have quick and simple guard removal and to align the guard to control the spark path in the proper way and provide an extra safety feature. The guard also adds to the time-saving this tool provides.
The spindle lock feature, which allows a user to have single wrench bit changes, also saves time on the jobsite, while the comfortable grip areas and light weight of the tool help to lessen the chance of user fatigue.Light weight and easy to maneuver. A bit noisy and the wrench located in the side grip handle isn’t the easiest to gain access to.
Let look at it’s features
- 11,000 RPM for high speed material removal
- Durable 6 Amp motor powers through jobsite tasks with ease
- Cast metal gear case increases jobsite durability & tool longevity
- Spindle lock feature allows for single wrench bit changes
- 3-position side handle allows greater control in multiple positions
- Slide switch w/lock-on
For certain jobs this may be a safety impediment, but for doing things like running along 3 feet of mortar at a time it actually works out really well. Also, the guard easily rotates and removes just by loosening a clamp so it’s super quick to rotate it when you change direction on work. Also, there’s a spanner hidden away in the handle so that you don’t need to go searching for one during blade changes.
I really like that particularly since it’s a pretty unique spanner design you don’t want to lose it.Only downsides I can find right now is that the two side positions for the handles angle the handle forward a bit – not straight out at 90 degrees and I find that a bit awkward. For your project, it may be beneficial.
