MIG welding is really good for a lot of automotive stuff where you’re welding steel. Also don’t think all cheap MIGs are bad; my Sealey has been going for almost 6 years and I still choose it it over my TIG for small jobs where I’m going to dress the weld and paint.

At sub £2++ it’s not a big gamble for occasional use.If you want to be able to weld aluminium you need an ac/dc TIG and so you are looking at getting on for a grand with all the bits that they normally exclude (torch, regulator, flow meter, foot control etc) and it seems difficult to avoid a lease arrangement on a decent size bottle of pure Argon,at least where I am.
